Mitch,
A layman's odyssey every ’open-minded’ Atheist, Jew, Christian, Muslim, Agnostic, or Spiritual seeker should ponder!
"Devastated by his young daughters' tragic death, Jacob is determined to find God to ask Him why He allowed her tragedy to occur. No longer sure where to find Him, or if God truly exists, Jacob travels through the 'Ancient Gates of Abraham' to wander across the contradictory and prejudiced roads within the Kingdom of Religious Confusion.
Repeatedly challenged to remain open-minded he engages religious leaders, devout followers, agnostics and atheists along passages as ‘Born again Street’, 'Fundamentalist Drive’, ’Junction of the Majority’, ‘Path of Disbelief’, and many more, in commonsense conversations to understand why their philosophy alone will lead him to God, or prove God's non-existence.
Yet the further he travels the more confused he becomes, and it is not until his arduous journey nears its end that he recognizes a culminating revelation – insight he was not expecting to unearth."

In Search of a Faith that Matters" has an excellent excerpt in the November 2010 edition of Christianity Today. The excerpt makes a powerful observation about how cultural Christianity (not true faith) is observed in the non-western world and how that differs from the faith that should be. Here's only one good quote among many, "Over time the gospel works its liberating effect....Women, minorities, the disabled, human rights activists—all these draw their moral force from the power of the gospel unleashed at the Cross, when God took the side of the victim."
Yancey is one of the most profound Christian authors of our generation, observing Christianity from the inside and not afraid to challenge the faithful to a close examination of what they believe and if it makes a difference in how they behave. He reminds me of Mitch.
