“When you sell a man a book you don’t sell just twelve ounces of paper and ink and glue — you sell him a whole new life. Love and friendship and humor and ships at sea by night — there‘s all heaven and earth in a book, a real book.” —Christopher Morley

Self Indulgence Book Club started in 2020 with a couple of friends reading the same books in a similar time frame. We loved books, reading with friends, and wanted a way to discuss these books in greater depth so we weren’t pondering these stories in a silo.

We believe that a well read woman can be a dangerous thing.

We started Self Indulgence Book Club in 2020 because reading with friends enriches our lives and makes us happy. And let’s face it, our world today needs more joy! We love hearing about what others are reading and recommending. It’s often how I plan our our next calendar year of events. We think it’s important to put down our phones and be social. Real, live, not hearting-you-on-Instagram social connections and discussions. Sometimes about hard, gut wrenching topics.

Self Indulgence is about community. We value unique perspectives and have members from all over the United States and beyond, including but not limited to: Georgia, Michigan, New Mexico, Ohio, and even Mexico. We really bring diversity with age ranges from 30 – 65+. We’ve grown to 25 women strong who participate and really dive into the craft of doing a book discussion justice. We are even fortunate enough to have authors join us from all over the world for some of our zoom chats from time to time. We’ve have had guests like Samantha Downing, Evie Green (Emily Barr), Emily Bleeker, May Cobb, J.T. Ellison, Kathleen Barber, Karen Dionne, and Rachel Harrison. Had authors answer Q&A’s for us like Jodi Picoult. And this year will be reading Emily Bleeker’s Book, What’s Left Unsaid and discussing as a book club before it’s even released to the general public (2021).

It’s a joy and honor to lead such an incredible group of women.
