Thank you for sharing Chika's story. When I heard about her yesterday on Hoda & Jenna, and saw your interview I looked at my husband and just based on the few pictures and very little information shared I said she had a DIPG. Once you are a DIPG parent you just know. So today I did a little internet research and typed in What brain tumor did Chika have? When the screen immediately popped up with Diffuse Intrinsic Pontein Glioma, even though I already "knew" it, my heart skipped a beat. We (you and I) have another thing in common in that our daughter Hope was also adopted. We too experienced some of the same situations and moments you describe with our sweet girl. 23 months though is an eternity with DIPG, it's almost unheard of. Our Hope was every bit a fighter and she battled like a true warrior but survived less than a third of that time.

I hope that you will be active in the fight against this disease. Your name alone will bring attention to a disease, that is so rare and has had such little attention paid to it, where no new real progress in actual treatment has taken place in over 50 years. Thanks for sharing your story. I wish I had known Chika in this life. Peace and comfort to you and your family.

"....families are like pieces of art: They can be made from many materials. Sometimes they are from birth, sometimes they are melded, sometimes they are forcibly constructed, and sometimes they are merely the confluence and time and circumstance, mixing together, like eggs being scrambled in a Michigan kitchen.

But they are all real. "

Every time I read this - every time- it moves me. Everything about this story, Chika, and the love wraps itself around my heart.

Beautiful.

As always, I really like the way you wrote this. Exceptional. I wouldn't be surprised if you get offers for a made for TV movie based on Chika's story. Her soul was guided to you to help her. What better person than you to teach her things and give her things in her short lived life and in return she was able to give you something that you never were given the opportunity to have. So a lot of good came out of this and you emerge better because of it.
