The support of lack of support of President Trump is merely a manifestation of our country as a whole. Politics is not the reason we are divided it is simply how we keep score. Our country is rural & urban, white & non-white, wealthy & poor, religious & non-religious. Our inability to find commonality or empathy with those that do not fit into our buckets is what divides the country and there is no remedy for that. In the past we have been able to gloss over our differences during times of national strife but sadly that is no longer the case. We are all ensconced with our particular tribes and we view other tribes as inferior or threatening to our way of life. Traditional Media, Social Media & Political Rhetoric simply reinforce our beliefs and drive us further apart. Don't think for a minute that those vehicles made us the way we are, they simply exacerbate how we've always been. We are a collection of United States and when we allow our traditions and societal norms to be put aside we aren't even united any longer.

Whereas I agree with the basic premise of your column, it's disappointing that you don't address the issue of proportionality. If there was a set of scales that measured which side was at greater fault, the Left would certainly have a brick or ten on their side. However, certainly if you focus on the last six months, or twelve years, the Right has an anvil or two on theirs.
