Dr. Phil’s Life Code a Must Read

Just read my pal Dr. Phil’s new book, “Life Code.” It’s excellent, and maybe his best. It warns of bad people we let in our lives, and definitely worth checking out!

DR PHIL VISITS MITCH’S HOMELESS CHILDREN CLINIC

On Thursday, April 2nd, Dr. Phil McGraw made a visit to the S.A.Y. Detroit Family Health clinic in Detroit. Mitch Albom gave him a tour of the facility which was opened last December. McGraw visited with patients and doctors and staff and was so impressed, he vowed a $25,000 gift from his foundation before he left. The clinic is the nation’s only 24 hour/7 day a week facility dedicated to homeless children and their mothers. McGraw’s gift will be used to purchase supplies and equipment to help future patients. Later that day, Mitch and Dr. Phil hosted a town hall-style meeting at I am My Brother’s Keeper Ministry (1435 Brainard Street). Dr. Phil first heard about Pastor Henry Covington and the Ministry when he read a recent Sports Illustrated article written by Albom called “THE COURAGE OF DETROIT.”

Albom opens and closes the Sports Illustrated piece by spotlighting the work of Pastor Henry Covington’s church to house the homeless, and in it, addresses the resiliency of the people who live in Detroit, even as their sports teams find new ways to flounder, and their livelihoods are taken away.

I am My Brother’s Keeper Ministry is formerly home to the largest Presbyterian congregation in the upper Midwest. Currently, the church is struggling to deal with broken windows, a hole in the roof, and heating bills so astronomical because of that hole, they go without.

Dr. Phil also hosted an event on April 1 at the Music Hall as part of a two-day visit to Detroit to discuss how to meet the challenges of living with purpose when times are tough.

Mitch and Dr. Phil to host town hall meeting in Detroit

Dr. Phil McGraw, life strategist and host of DR. PHIL, will make TWO FREE APPEARANCES in Detroit to discuss how to meet the challenges of living with purpose when times are tough.

On Wednesday, April 1 at the Music Hall (350 Madison Street), beginning at 7:00 PM, Dr. Phil will speak about the realities of the economic downturn, how families have been affected and how they can cope.

On Thursday, April 2, between 2:00 – 4:00 PM, Mitch Albom will moderate a town hall-style meeting, to be held at I am My Brother’s Keeper Ministry (1435 Brainard Street). Dr. Phil first heard about Pastor Henry Covington and the Ministry when he read a recent Sports Illustrated article written by Albom called “THE COURAGE OF DETROIT.”

Dr. Phil said: “I am honored to meet members of Pastor Covington’s congregation, and welcome a chance to hear what’s on the minds of community members. None of us have all the answers, but together, we can try to find them.”

WWJ TV issued the invitation to Dr. Phil to visit Detroit in support of the community and the station several months ago. This will mark a return appearance in Detroit for Dr. Phil. He spent several days in the Motor City in 2006, with visits to the Detroit Youth Foundation, in which the Dr. Phil Foundation partnered with local business people to donate musical instruments, as well as a talk for concerned Daimler Chrysler employees, even then facing an uncertain future.

Explained McGraw: “It is the spirit of the people who live in this city, who are trying to keep Detroit alive, that really moves me. I want to thank WWJ TV for inviting me back into the community. I think that Detroit is really every city. If we can keep a dialogue going about what we can do to beat the odds in this economic crisis, we will beat them.”

Both appearances will be filmed in part for future broadcast on DR. PHIL and WWJ TV.
