Each year, the Brain Injury Association of Michigan hosts a Spring Tribute Dinner in which its Legacy Society recognizes its newest contributing members and selects as honorary members individuals who have contributed to the brain injury field, or have shown a demonstrated leadership in working to improve lives of persons with brain injuries.
Appearing as a speaker at the April 13, 2019 dinner, Mitch Albom was presented with the Founders Award for his visionary advocacy and support of the brain injury rehabilitation industry. This is only the third time the Founders Award has been presented in the 21-year history of the event: Gov. William Milliken was the first, for his creation of the No Fault system; Charles Reeder, founder of the BIA of Michigan, was the second. Erica Coulston present Mitch with the award.
