Mitch Albom on the Making of a Family – NYC
After writing Tuesdays With Morrie, the bestselling memoir of all time, Mitch Albom largely confined himself to fiction writing – and trying to follow Morrie’s lessons. One involved “giving to others.” So after Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, Albom took over the operations of an orphanage there and has visited monthly ever since.
In 2015, when a lively five-year-old orphan named Chika was diagnosed with a brain tumor, Albom and his wife Janine brought her to America, hoping U.S. medicine could quickly heal her. Instead, she became part of their lives and as they traveled the world in search of a cure, they grew into an unlikely family.
Just as he passed along Morrie’s lessons to millions of readers, Albom is now sharing that emotionally rich story in his new book, CHIKA: A little girl, an earthquake, and the making of a family .
The Streicker Center is honored to welcome Mitch Albom, author of seven #1 New York Times bestsellers, to our stage.
