Auditions for ERNIE–The Play–Begin

In Ernie Harwell’s final year, the famed broadcaster had several conversations with bestselling author Mitch Albom about doing a theatrical play based on Harwell’s life.  Although Harwell died before the work could be completed, the idea will finally blossom and reach the stage next March. Just in time for the new baseball season, Detroit’s City Theatre will host the world premiere of “Ernie” – Albom’s brand new play based on the life of the legendary voice of baseball.

Here’s what you need to know:

Opening: early April 2011

Date(s)/Time(s) of Auditions:   12 – 3 p.m. and 7 – 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, December 21, and Wednesday, December 22.*

Location of Auditions:   The City Theatre, 2301 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI  48272

Seeking/Roles Available:

Ernie Harwell – male, age 50-80, to play famed Hall of Fame baseball broadcaster.

Boy – age 15-23, male, to play a high school-aged teen from the past.

Audition Preparation:   Scenes will be provided upon arrival, so please give yourself enough time upon arrival for preparation. Please bring resumes and head shots.

Type of Contract:  Equity

Contract Salary:   Standard equity rates

*Other Dates (rehearsal/production):   Rehearsals begin mid-February 2011
