A Special Announcement from Mitch:

The First Phone Call From Heaven,” my new novel, is out 11/12/13! I wanted you, my friends and loyal readers, to hear it from me. Am breaking some new ground today! Will be publishing a brand new novel for the first time ever in November (usually September), first time ever in a consecutive year from last book (thank you, caffeine!) and first time ever with HarperCollins, my new publishing partner. It’s a magical story about what happens when one little town, way up north, starts getting calls from souls in heaven. Who believes, who doesn’t? Who flocks to join them? Who points fingers and calls them fools? And ultimately, what happens to the world when the biggest mystery of life seems suddenly solved? I’m having a great time writing it, and I am really happy to be sharing this with you. A cover will be revealed soon. Meanwhile, would love to hear your early thoughts. And don’t forget to let your fellow readers know. Thanks, as always, for being such a wonderful part of my world!

The Full Story:

Harper, an imprint of HarperCollins Publishers, has acquired North American rights to three new books by #1 internationally renowned and bestselling author Mitch Albom.  His newest book, a novel, The First Phone Call from Heaven will be published by Harper this Fall, 2013.  The deal was negotiated by SVP, Publisher Jonathan Burnham and SVP, Executive Editor, Karen Rinaldi with David Black from the David Black Agency.

Karen Rinaldi says, “I have been a fan of Mitch Albom ever since I tried to acquire Tuesdays with MorrieI have never forgotten our first meeting and his subsequent success, which have always been bittersweet for me. It is particularly satisfying to bring Mitch to Harper, where our team’s expertise and spirit of collaboration will create an unprecedented focus and passion for the next phase of Mitch’s exceptional writing career.”

The First Phone Call from Heaven tells the story of a small town on Lake Michigan that gets worldwide attention when its citizens start receiving phone calls from the afterlife. Is it the greatest miracle ever or a massive hoax? Sully Harding, a grief-stricken single father, is determined to find out. An allegory about the power of belief – and a page-turner that will touch your soul – Albom’s masterful storytelling has never been so moving and unexpected.

Readers of The Five People You Meet in Heaven will recognize the warmth and emotion so redolent of Albom’s writing, and those who haven’t yet enjoyed the power of his storytelling will thrill at the discovery of one of the best-loved writers of our time.

I am thrilled that my upcoming books will be published by Harper Collins and am honored to join its rich publishing history. Karen Rinaldi and I have known each other for over 15 years. We see stories the same way. It’s going to be a joy working with her. The new book, The First Phone Call from Heaven, is maybe my favorite story yet, a tale of belief, love and mystery, and I hope it’s a great start to a long publishing partnership,” says Albom.
