Eight Barnes & Noble stores will host a Detroit-area regional Book Club event with Mitch Albom to discuss his latest bestseller, THE STRANGER IN THE LIFEBOAT, on September 22

Eight Barnes & Noble stores in the metro Detroit area are joining forces to host a regional book club event featuring Mitch Albom’s #1 bestselling novel, The Stranger in the Lifeboat.  Bringing the community together and championing local authors is the heartbeat of Barnes & Noble, and the bookstore is delighted to take part in this event.  The summer of reading will culminate in an event on September 22nd at 8 pm at Startup Nation (Birmingham), featuring a book discussion led by Albom and his longtime Harper Collins editor, Karen Rinaldi. The free, ticketed event will also stream live to Albom’s Facebook page and be available for viewing on Barnes & Noble’s YouTube channel after the live event.

Albom’s tenth New York Times bestseller, The Stranger in the Lifeboat explores what would happen if we called on God for help and God actually appeared. In a riveting story that is equal parts mystery and inspiration, Albom once again challenges our understanding of faith and suggests the answers to our prayers may be found where we least expect them. The author will share the story’s origins and take readers inside the creative process during the live conversation and q&a.

“I am deeply honored that Barnes & Noble has chosen my book for its regional book club event,” said Albom, “I’m prouder still to support any effort that brings people together to read, and shines a light on our community’s strong literary spirit.”

“Mitch Albom brings such a wonderful local presence to the area and is a well-respected literacy advocate to our residents,” said Ryan Young, who heads up Detroit area bookselling at Barnes & Noble.  “I am excited that we can assist in gathering our customers together, for what is sure to be a treat of a night, discussing The Stranger in the Lifeboat, and sharing the love of books with one another.”

Copies of The Stranger in the Lifeboat can be purchased at all participating Detroit-area bookstores including both Rochester Hills locations, Troy, Shelby Township, Allen Park, Northville, Ann Arbor, Green Oak Township and participants can register to join the live event in person on Eventbrite. Customers can find their local store by visiting the store locator
